Top ten things - Inspiration

'Information is Beautiful'

Very much a 'still' of what I want to achieve in my animation sequence. The colours aren't quite to my liking, but the vector outline drawings are certainly something I want to do.

I wanted to use icon vector images in my work, the below image is something very much like I want to achieve.

Top ten things - Looking at typeography

I want to use two typefaces per sequence within my work, one to be bold and impacting, the other to be elegant and curvaceous.

The below image is the style of bold typeface I want to use within the sequence.

After seeing this campaign I decided MTV may be a suitable channel, as I want to promote responsible drinking. The vector images and consistent colour scheme and stroke is something I want to achieve in my animation.

I really, really like the typography here, the combination of both soft elegant serif font, and bold, impacting, sans serif font. That combined with vector image and a pastel like colour palette has made a really lovely piece. I may consider a similar colour palette in my animation.

For my work, I want to divide the cocktail ingredients by colour, the below diagrams do something very similar to what I would like to achieve in my animation.

I love the above and below work of vector images which use a key alongside. They are really bold and striking and communicate very clearly what the images are and represent.

As I want to show, step by step what ingredients go into making the mocktails. A way I feel I can communicate this is through using an exploded diagram similar to the below pieces of work.

I cam across some Idents which used very illustrative, curling, elegant fonts to communicate an Idea. I would like to achieve this same in my animation if possible, using images to create my type, that of a similar image style to my content.

Top ten things - Popular Virgin Cocktails

Virgin Mary
Half fill a cocktail shaker with ice, add 300ml of tomato juice, between 2-10 dashes of Tabasco sauce, depending on your hot pepper tolerance), 2-3 dashes of Worcestershire sauce, a teaspoon of horseradish sauce, the juice of quarter of a lemon, and a quick grind of salt and pepper. Shake and strain into an ice-filled highball. Garnish with a small stick of celery.
Shirley Temple
The classic virgin cocktail. Add a couple of dashes of grenadine to an ice-filled highball glass, and top up with ginger ale. Squeeze a couple of lemon wedges over the top and drop in the drink. Stir and serve.
Gentle Sea Breeze
Shake a mixture of equal measures of cranberry juice and pineapple juice, and strain into a glass filled with crushed ice. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
Honeymoon Cocktail
Take a cocktail shaker half filled with ice, add 100ml each of apple juice and orange juice, the juice of half a lime and 2 teaspoons of honey. Shake and strain into a pair of champagne flutes. Garnish with a twist of orange peel and a cherry each.
Safe Sex on the Beach
Add 1 large (50ml) shot of peach juice, 3 large shots of pineapple juice, 3 large shots of orange juice, and the juice of half a lime to a cocktail shaker half filled with ice. Stir and strain into an ice-filled highball glass. Garnish with a lime wedge, strawberry and orange twist.
Liver Recovery
Use a juicer to juice 2 apples, 6 strawberries and a banana, then blend the juice with a handful of ice cubes and pour into a large rocks glass.
Pussyfoot
Fill a cocktail shaker with two thirds of ice, add 2 large (50ml) shots of orange juice, the juice of half a lime, a squeeze of lemon and an egg yolk. Shake very well and strain into a wine glass filled with crushed ice.
Brooke Shields
A modern version of the classic Shirley Temple. Into a cocktail shaker filled with two thirds of ice, add a large (50ml) shot of orange juice, a small (25ml) shot of lemon juice, a dash of lime juice, and shake and strain into an ice-filled highball glass. Add a dash of grenadine, top up with ginger ale, and garnish with a cherry.
Egg Nog
The classic family friendly Christmas cocktail. This recipe serves six. Break 4 eggs into a large bowl and whisk until frothy. Add a healthy splash (or a large shot) of sugar syrup or 2 tablespoons of fine caster sugar. Then add a teaspoon of vanilla extract (preferably pure Madagascan vanilla extract), half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon and half a teaspoon of mixed spice. Whisk thoroughly, and then gradually add a pint and a half of milk, whisking at the same time. Serve in tumblers.
Coco Colada
Place a couple of handfuls of ice, and 2 parts of pineapple juice to 1 part of coconut milk into a blender. Blend and pour into a chilled Martini glass

High Wide and Handsome, the Los Angeles based advertising agency, directed XYZ in helping Arbor Mist step up a new creative look of their web banners. XYZ created conceptual storyboards depicting live action fruit shot at high speeds interacting with different elements. XYZ's artists developed 3D BBQ tongs, smoke, CG fruit and 2D/3D motion graphics that made up the web banners. The ultimate goal was to create final pieces that had constant movement, bright colors and a true entertainment value that urged a call to action.

End frame beauty shots were captured practically with the actual Arbor Mist bottles surrounded by real fruit. XYZ's talented team of retouchers handled the final color correction and fine-tuning of these beauty end frames. With the combination of XYZ team of creatives, live action crews, 2D and 3D animators, compositors, retouchers and production staff, the Arbor Mist web banners where highly embraced and distributed by High Wide and Handsome throughout all markets.
