YCN - Competitors

We need to know whats already out there, so we are able to find a distinct space in the market for our new and innovative product. We also need to know how we can do better, in regard to product, price, design, range and convenience.

Office Diner

A website we came across which in a sense is similar to the 'Graze' product, which was a previously disccussed possible brief within YCN. You can simply select which snacks you would like, and they are delivered to your office.

We, I feel, as although working for M&S have the advantage of a highly established reputation with a wider and more reputable consumer rate. The location of M&S stores and widely spread too, 'Office Diner' is simply located in London.

Sainsburys

We found an immense selection of lunchtime platter Sainsburys offer, with very, very reasonable prices. This is certainly a big competitor in regard to what were trying to do with our product and who we are aiming it at (in regard to price).
Some weaknesses are in relation to design - There really isn't much, its simply a dish the food product is placed in. You are expected to eat it with your hands, with no plate to put it on. The idea of 'Finger food' is different to M&S USP of quality, we would communicate this through packaging design, providence of plates, serviettes ect.

Asda

There wasn't much when we searched for something 'Picnic like' but there were a few options of platters. Although a nice selection there no real idea of being able to eat these foods with preparation, cutlery or crockery. Some feel although they need more, for instance, the 'Mediterranean selection' doesn't appeal filling enough for a lunch, its something you may possible have to eat bread with - which means buying more than just one item, which is something were aiming to avoid. We want to contain everything you could possibly need in one pack - making it more convenient thus appealing to a customer.

Tesco

Tesco's seasonal platter is certainly the direction we want to take, but produce more than just a snack box, but an entire seasonal pack, for a few people to consume rather than just one.
